We had a huge busy weekend. My mom flew in for one event. And there was major housework accomplished as well!
Soooo, mom flew in Friday. Robbie and I picked her up and her flight went well. Only a little bumpy in NC. We got her suitcase and off we went. We went to a restaurant that I can't remember the name too and have some interesting, but mostly good food. And good conversation as well.
Let's see so we got home Friday evening and pretty much got settled in for the night. Mom got the tour and all and we hit the sack. On Sat. the boys were pumped up to do some housework. And promptly got to work in the master shower finishing up some tiling. They also were working in the downstairs half bath finishing up some drywalling.
So off mom and I went to do some froggin around. (after a trip out and back to Home Depot for some tile) (second trip of the day so far). And we were off to conquer the subway/metro. Also the interstate, because I had never myself ventured this far on my own. Haven't had the chance yet. :) So I was excited myself to get out a figure the area out some. We made our way to the subway station which is about 5-10 minutes from the house, and mom and I had metro cards from Robbie. (basically tickets with money on them that you swipe to get in and out of the subway area). So mom followed and we found ourselves on the right train headed towards the Smithsonian area. We rode the train with no problems and even switched trains to catch another direction. It was a lot of fun and mom was a trooper. She was enjoying every minute of it, just as much as I was. We ended up finally in the mall area, which is this big open field in between the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument. On a Saturday it was very busy. People come to play games, and run, and all do all sorts of stuff. So mom and I frogged around to a few of the Smithsonian Museums, got attacked by a few bums selling maps (which we bought) and had some coffee. It was a great day! I know moms favorite was the Air and Space Museum which had all the airplanes in it. And hopefully they will get to return to spend more time there. Night was falling and the brisk air was coming upon us quickly. We ran around the city and found another metro stop and jumped back on our train. We only had to catch one on the way home and it was packed!! Mom was so cute, everyone was offering her their seat, because it looked like she was going to tumble over. (they go and stop pretty fast) haha, sorry mom. And she finally took one joyfully.
Eventually I ended up in the seat next to her and we enjoyed the rest of our ride home.
Upon arriving home, we found the boys had finished tiling the master shower. Wow what a job! It looks great. And they were tuckered out! Soooo we ordered like a million dollars of Chinese take-out and stayed in to watch a movie. Me, Mom, Robbie, and Jerad. :) Chinese Buffet on our coffee table and a movie (Big Fish for those interested). A great night in!
After the movie we all crashed, and the next day mom was leaving. Again the boys got up rearing to work. So off to work they went, and mom and I decided to visit Ikea. She had never been, and I needed to price out some closet organizers for the master closet situation. Mom and I ate breakfast at Ikea and it was pretty good and only like 99 cents. funny. I think it took us about 1.5-2 hours to make it through the whole store without stopping too much. We picked up a few odds and ends and headed back to the house to grab her stuff and hit the airport. Robbie stopped working and drove us ladies to the airport. Mom had to take home one of my suitcases full of things of hers that got packed by accident. haha. So she had a big suitcase now and a tiny one. She was so cute going up to the airport with all those suitcases and her 2 carry on bags. I was a little worried I have to say. But of course a few minutes later I got her text saying she had made it through security and had no problems! :) Duh... I knew she would be fine.
Upon arriving home, the grout party started! The boys worked upstairs grouting the master shower and I put on my work boots (really just tennis shoes) and helped out. I got a mini-grout highlights session from Robbie and off I went grouting the little half bath downstairs. Both bathrooms are now grouted! :) And both look purdy good, if I do say so myself. haha
I have pictures, but can't find my cable, so I will add more pictures from my camera when I find it. But I have uploaded pics from my iPhone...
After the grout situation, we also decided to lay the rocks in the master shower floor, and they look great. That was a fun project for all. :) Picking out stones to fill in holes and such.
Anyways, that's all for now! I am going to go eat dinner.
